Foreword: This is  a  very long post, so if you can’t be bothered reading it, then to skip to paragraph 9 where I decide to be comedic. Well comedic to me at least!

I’ve been holding off on writing this post for a long while, namely because I didn’t want to hurt a few people that follow my blog and know the site in “question” which I created and became involved in. But at the end of the day this blog is really about documenting my journey, the good, bad and ugly. And I really think I need to tell you about the ugly – heh heh!

So where do I begin? Well a good two years ago, I did come to the conclusion that I did in fact need to start looking for an online venture, I mean it made sense. I am a a web designer, with skills in video and animation. So I looked at my skills and thought, how ridiculous that I have all these skills that can be applied online, and here I am “not utelising my skills to my best ability”. It was a waste, and I didn’t see the point of it anymore. I would rather find a way to build up my own business, and be in control and at the same time utilise all my skills, not just a few.

Could my animation “Falling Feather” help me with my business? I really should leverage it more!

God damn it, I just saw a brilliant post on mixergy about common craft which is company that creates animated, stop motion, paper cut-out tvc’s to educate and explain to  users about complicated subjects, like Twitter, social networking, blogging etc

Brilliant idea. But that got me thinking about my own animation “Falling Feather” above and how I haven’t leveraged it as well as I could have. I put the “Falling Feather” animation up on vimeo a few years ago and haven’t done much or showed it to anyone and it still has like 20 comments and  had 3,000 views and like by 32 people. That animation helped me produce two TVC’s (television commercials) and I have also subsequent had offers to produce TVC’s (tv commercials) from it, on Vimeo and although the deal fell through, it still shows me that the idea is popular and I should “get it out there” some more.

My idea was to do a lot of video animation with my new shopping site, but that interview on common craft has got my thinking a lot more. The problem with me is that I am not a full-on sales person and I’m not very good at promoting my skills. This is not a good thing at all!!

I know my site will centre around video and animation elements quite a bit, because a) I love creating video projects and b) video can tell a story a lot better than words at times c) It think shop owners can allow their users to get to know them better through video and telling stories. As seen in the common craft videos.

Something to think about!
